How to run MEDDIC in note2it (free template kit inside)
Record a discovery call and get a summary sorted by MEDDIC letter, with the gaps turned into questions for the next call. Here's the whole setup, with four importable pages: a deal, a discovery call, a contact and a pipeline home.
You know the letters. Metrics, Economic buyer, Decision criteria, Decision process, Identify pain, Champion. The methodology isn't the hard part. The hard part is that the answers come out of a 40-minute call in the wrong order, half of them implied, and by the time you fill in the CRM on Friday you're working from memory.
MEDDIC is a sales qualification methodology: six things you need to know before you call a deal real. This post shows how to run it in note2it, from the call recording to a deal page that keeps every letter in one place. It ends with four files you can import so you don't start from a blank page.
What MEDDIC needs from your notes
Evidence, not impressions. "They seemed keen on SSO" isn't a decision criterion. "We can't buy anything without SSO" is. You need the buyer's words, captured while they're still fresh.
Visible gaps. The letter nobody asked about matters more than the five you covered, because that's the one that slips the deal. Your notes should shout about what's missing.
Connections. The economic buyer at one account might be the champion at another deal next year. People and deals need to link, not live in separate lists.
Follow-through. Every step of the decision process is a date someone can miss. If it isn't on a task list, it's a hope.
The setup: one notebook for the pipeline
Create one notebook and call it Pipeline. Keep deals, calls and contacts in it, in whatever sections suit you: Deals, Calls and Contacts is a good start. The one rule is to keep them in the same notebook, because [[wiki-links]] connect pages within a notebook, and links are what hold a deal together.
The free Standard plan includes one notebook and 15 AI meeting notes, which is enough to run this on real calls before you decide anything.
Import the MEDDIC template kit
The kit is four Markdown files. MEDDIC Deal is one page per opportunity, with a section for each letter plus stage, deal value, target close date, win confidence and next steps. MEDDIC Discovery Call has questions by letter to pick from before the call, a spot for the recording, and room for what you learned and the gaps to close. MEDDIC Contact holds the person, their role in the deal (economic buyer, champion, coach, blocker…), their pain in their own words and how they decide. Pipeline is the home page your deals link back to, with a weekly deal review you can tick off.
To install them, open a section's menu, choose Import files and pick all four. Each file becomes a page. Then, on the deal, discovery call and contact pages, open the page menu and switch on Use as a template. From then on, New page offers them, and each opens as a short form instead of a blank page.
One thing to know: checkboxes on a template page itself never become tasks. Only the pages you create from the template do, so the kit won't flood My Tasks with placeholders.
Before the call: pick three questions
Create a page from the Discovery Call template and link it to its deal. Then look at the deal page and find the weakest letter. The template lists two questions per letter; you don't need all twelve. Pick the three that close the biggest gaps and ask those first.
During the call: record it, with consent
Tell the prospect you're recording, and get their consent where the law, or their company, requires it. note2it asks you to confirm this before every recording. Then type /AI Meeting Notes on the call page and record your mic and, if you want, the call audio from your computer. If you recorded somewhere else, upload the audio file instead.
Then forget about the notes and listen. That's the point.
After the call: a summary sorted by letter
When the call ends, choose the Sales call (MEDDIC) summary style. note2it transcribes the call and writes the summary under the six letters, quoting the buyer where it helps. It doesn't guess: a letter the call never touched is marked as not covered.
Each gap also becomes a checkbox under "Questions for the next call", phrased as the question to ask. Action items arrive as checkboxes too. Every checkbox on the page shows up in My Tasks automatically. Give one a due date there and note2it emails you a reminder, and again if it goes overdue.
Treat the summary like a colleague's notes: read it, fix what's off, and keep the transcript on the page for when you need the exact words.
The deal page: six letters, one place
Move what you learned onto the deal page. Metrics go in as the buyer's numbers, next to the deal value and the target close date. Decision criteria become a checklist you tick as you prove each one. Pain goes in their words, with what doing nothing costs them.
The decision process is where note2it earns its keep. Write each step between today and a signature as a checkbox (security review, legal redlines, CFO sign-off) and each one lands in My Tasks. Set the dates in My Tasks, or, on Premium and Pro, open the page's AI chat and ask it to turn the decision process into tasks with dates. The chat can also rewrite a section of the page in place ("update Identify pain with what they said today") or add tags for you.
Contacts: link people, don't list them
The economic buyer and the champion are people, so they get pages. On the deal page, type [[ and their name to link their contact page, and tag the contacts #economic-buyer or #champion.
Now the links work for you. Every page header shows how many pages link to it; on a contact, that count opens a graph of every deal that links to them. Search with the #champion tag filter and you have every champion in your pipeline in one list, which is exactly the weekly review question: which ones haven't we tested yet?
Ask across the whole pipeline
On Premium and Pro, connect Claude or ChatGPT to your notes over MCP. Your assistant can then search and read every deal, call and contact page in the notebook, so you can ask things no single page answers: "Which deals have no confirmed economic buyer?", "Which champions haven't we tested yet?", "Summarize the pain across every deal in Proposal."
You choose what the assistant is allowed to do, every action it takes is recorded in your audit trail, and you can revoke its access in one click.
What note2it doesn't do
It doesn't sync with your CRM. There is no integration, and nothing moves automatically. Your notes stay in note2it; export any page, section or notebook as Markdown, or copy the MEDDIC summary into the CRM record yourself.
It isn't a team workspace either. Each rep has their own account and their own pipeline. On Pro you can share a notebook read-only, for example with your manager before a deal review, but there's no shared editing.
And it's not affiliated with MEDDIC's creators. It's a note-taking app that happens to fit the methodology well.
Start with your next call
Create the Pipeline notebook, import the four files, and record your next discovery call with the Sales call (MEDDIC) style. Then look at which letter came back as not covered. That's your first question for the next call, and it's already on your task list.
